Saweetie Takes A Lie Detector Test: Would She Freestyle for Ebro Again?

Since its birth, hip hop has been a male-dominated industry. While trailblazing female rappers such as Lil’ KimTrinaNicki Minaj, and more recently Cardi B have taken the industry by storm, more up-and-coming female rappers are on the rise—Bay Area native Saweetie is one of them. The 25-year-old stopped by Fuse to take the infamous Lie Detector.

"I've never taken a lie detector test, and I'm kind of nervous because I might have to tell a lie," the USC grad says with a laugh.

Where have you been if you haven't heard Saweetie's breakout hit, "Icy Girl"? The song, which samples Khia's iconic 2003 anthem "My Neck, My Back," has taken social media and the industry by storm and was even featured on an episode of Issa Rae's Insecure.

Despite her seemingly overnight success, she says there are challenges that come with being a female rapper.

"For some reason, people like to pick on females, which is why I like showing love to other female rappers," the “Up Now" artist says.

After her 2018 freestyle with Hot 97, the "Icy Wifey" got some harsh criticism from the popular NYC radio station, especially from Ebro. Since then, she has released her debut project "High Maintenance," sold out venues, and has continued to rack up streams on all platforms. However, even after all her success, would she freestyle for Ebro again? "Um," the rapper begins to say…

Watch the full clip above to see if she’ll return to Hot 97 and face Ebro once more and if she's even flex'd in the club with someone else's bottles.
